Sound Space specializes in tap. That's why we built the best floor in town. Whether you're an absolute beginner or a working professional, we have the class for you.
Absolute beginner/slow beginner: If you've never tap danced before, or it's been a while and you want to dust off your shoes, this is the class for you. We work with our own natural sense of rhythm and timing to learn the musical vocabulary of tap.
Beginner/Fast beginner: This is a class for people who have a working knowledge of tap terminology and want to improve their clarity, timing and precision of sound in a dedicated yet fun environment. We begin and end each class with a bit of improvisational exercise, just to tune our ears to what our feet are doing.
Slow intermediate/swingin' Intermediate: This is a class for people who are able to execute tap technique at two or more speeds. We move our bodies across the floor, work on a center phrase, and hone our skills as improvisers. We practice in a variety of musical grooves and time signatures.
Street hoofin': This class focuses on a style of dynamic, close-to-the-ground, a cappella tap that is unique to Philadelphia and was made most popular by the late LaVaughn Robinson.
Advanced/Pro: This is a class for people who are always reaching for that next level of sound. We will get you there. Bring a towel.
